Engineered Access at 75 Metres: MOSCO Supports Critical Works on ArcelorMittal BOF Stack

MOSCO is currently erecting an engineered, purpose-designed scaffold to provide safe access and structural support for works on the ArcelorMittal Basic Oxygen Furnace three-legged stack.
Standing at an impressive height of 75 metres, this scaffold is far more than a temporary access structure. It is a carefully designed support system, developed to meet the demanding requirements of a complex industrial environment where safety, stability, load capacity, and operational coordination are critical.
The scaffold has been engineered and constructed in accordance with the requirements of SANS 10085, ensuring that every stage of the design and erection process is guided by recognised safety and engineering standards. From the ground up, the structure reflects a disciplined approach to scaffold design, load planning, access control, inspection readiness, and safe execution at height.
This project has required an integrated service approach, with MOSCO working in close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the scaffold meets the full operational, engineering, maintenance, and future demolition requirements of the project.
Designed to safely support an approximate load of more than 35 tonnes at height, the scaffold will carry Level 6, the burner assemblies, and the associated working platform. It will also provide secure access for personnel involved in critical inspection, maintenance, and future demolition activities on the BOF stack.
In a project of this nature, access is not simply about getting people to a certain elevation. It is about creating a safe, controlled, engineered environment that allows every trade and every activity to be performed with confidence.
